In John 9:1-41, Jesus heals a man born blind, illustrating both physical and spiritual blindness. Here are ten ways to avoid spiritual blindness during Lent: 1. Seek Spiritual Insight: Commit to regular prayer and ask God for wisdom and clarity. Approach each day with a heart open to perceiving His truths. 2. Engage with Scripture: Read and meditate on the Bible daily. Allow the Word of God to illuminate your understanding and reveal areas of blindness in your life. 3. Reflect on Your Faith: Examine your beliefs and be open to re-evaluating them. Ask yourself if there are areas where you might be lacking understanding or being complacent. 4. Participate in Community: Engage with a community of believers. Sharing insights and discussing faith can help you see perspectives that you might be blind to on your own. 5. Practice Self-Examination: Regularly assess your actions, thoughts, and motivations. Use Lent as a time to confront any habits or attitudes that hinder your spiritual growth. 6. Listen to God: Spend quiet time in solitude, listening for God’s voice. Silence can reveal truths and insights that may not be evident amidst the noise of daily life. 7. Embrace Humble Service: Serve others without recognition. Engaging in acts of kindness helps cultivate compassion and can open your eyes to the needs around you. 8. Ask Questions: Be curious about your faith and the world around you. Seek answers to questions about spirituality and morality, approaching them with an open heart. 9. Seek Guidance: Talk to a spiritual mentor or pastor about your faith journey. Learning from someone with more experience can provide valuable insights and help combat spiritual blindness. 10. Practice Gratitude: Cultivate an attitude of thankfulness for the blessings in your life. Recognizing God’s goodness in everyday moments helps shift your focus from darkness to light. By integrating these practices into your Lenten journey, you can enhance your spiritual vision and deepen your understanding of God’s presence and purpose in your life. Below are 10 concrete ways to live Lent drawn directly from this Gospel: 1. Go to the Well Daily “Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well.” (Jn 4:6) Lent begins with intentional encounter. Jesus chooses to stop at the well; we must choose to stop in prayer. • Establish fixed daily prayer (Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, silent adoration). • Do not wait to “feel spiritual.” Show up tired if necessary. Lent is not about intensity; it is about fidelity. 2. Let Jesus Cross Your Boundaries “How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jn 4:9) Jesus crosses ethnic, religious, and moral boundaries. • Reconcile with someone you avoid. • Break patterns of spiritual tribalism. • Approach someone you normally ignore. Lent requires dismantling interior walls. 3. Ask for the Living Water “If you knew the gift of God…” (Jn 4:10) The woman misunderstands at first; so do we. • Deepen sacramental life, especially Confession and Eucharist. • Pray explicitly for grace rather than relying on self-discipline alone. Lent is not self-improvement; it is grace-reception. 4. Identify Your False Wells “You have had five husbands…” (Jn 4:18) Jesus gently exposes her disordered attachments. • Examine where you seek identity, security, or comfort apart from God. • Fast from that specific attachment (not just food). Every person has a “five husbands” area—Lent is when it is named. 5. Accept Truth Without Defensiveness The woman does not argue when confronted. • Allow Scripture to correct you. • Receive fraternal correction without immediate justification. • In Confession, avoid minimizing sin. Conversion requires intellectual and moral humility. 6. Worship in Spirit and Truth “True worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth.” (Jn 4:23) Lent purifies worship. • Attend Mass attentively, not mechanically. • Prepare before liturgy; give thanks afterward. • Remove distractions that dilute reverence. True worship reforms the heart before it reforms behavior. 7. Let Hunger Become Mission “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me.” (Jn 4:34) Jesus redefines nourishment. • Offer fasting as participation in Christ’s mission. • Unite sacrifices to God’s salvific will. Physical hunger should awaken spiritual hunger. 8. Become a Witness Immediately “Come see a man who told me everything I have done.” (Jn 4:29) She evangelizes before theological training. • Share how God is working in your life. • Invite someone to Mass during Lent. Authentic encounter leads naturally to proclamation. 9. Leave the Water Jar “The woman left her water jar…” (Jn 4:28) Symbolically, she abandons her old purpose. • Concretely remove something that anchors you to old habits. • Simplify possessions, routines, or media consumption. Repentance is visible in changed priorities. 10. Stay with Jesus “He stayed there two days.” (Jn 4:40) The Samaritans invite Him to remain. • Extend prayer beyond obligation. • Practice silence instead of constant noise. • Do not rush spiritual experiences—linger. Lent is about abiding, not merely enduring. The Core Lenten Arc in John 4 1. Encounter → 2. Truth Revealed → 3. Conversion → 4. Worship → 5. Mission The Samaritan woman begins isolated and ends as an evangelist. Lent should move us along the same trajectory. March 1st, 2026

Each year, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal unites all parishes of the Archdiocese of Atlanta in supporting the wider mission of the Church. While our parish faithfully serves our local community, the Appeal helps fund seminarian formation, Catholic education, evangelization, campus ministry, outreach to the poor, and many other ministries that strengthen the Church across North Georgia. Through this appeal, we participate in works that no single parish could accomplish alone. Our parish goal this year is $25,184.00. There is also an important benefit to exceeding our goal: 100% of all funds raised above $25,184.00 are returned directly to our parish, with no future diocesan assessment or taxation on that amount. Once we meet our goal, every additional dollar stays here to support our parish’s needs and future growth. You may donate:

Here are 10 ways we can imitate John the Baptist in proclaiming Jesus and searching for Him even in “prison moments” of our lives—moments of darkness, confusion, suffering, or limitation: 1. Keep proclaiming Christ even when life is difficult John continued pointing to Jesus even while imprisoned. Likewise, we can witness to Christ through words and actions even when life feels restricted or painful. 2. Hold firm to the truth even when it costs us John’s imprisonment came from speaking the truth. We imitate him by defending the Gospel with love, even when it is unpopular or uncomfortable. 3. Look for Jesus in moments of confusion John sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are You the one?” Not because he lost faith, but because he sought clarity. In moments of uncertainty, we too can seek Christ through prayer, Scripture, and spiritual direction. 4. Bring our questions to Jesus, not away from Him Instead of doubting in silence, John brought his questions directly to Christ. We imitate him by letting prayer become a place of honest searching, not hiding our struggles from God. 5. Encourage others to meet Jesus personally John sent his disciples to Jesus so they could experience Him firsthand. We imitate this by helping others encounter Christ—through invitation, testimony, or example. 6. Stay faithful to our mission even when results are hidden John didn’t see the full impact of his ministry while alive. We imitate him by trusting that God is working through us—even when we cannot see the fruits. 7. Recognize Jesus’ works, especially in small signs Jesus pointed to His miracles as proof. Like John, we look for Jesus’ presence in everyday blessings, healings, and quiet graces. 8. Remain humble, knowing our role is to lead others to Christ John said, “He must increase, I must decrease.” We imitate him by not seeking recognition, but by pointing all glory to Jesus. 9. Prepare a straight path for Jesus in our hearts Even in prison, John lived a spirit of repentance and readiness. We imitate him by removing obstacles—sin, resentment, distractions—that block God’s grace. 10. Trust God even when His plan unfolds differently than we expected John expected a Messiah of judgment, instead he was shown a Messiah of mercy. We imitate him by accepting God’s ways, even when they surprise or challenge us. December 7th, 2025

Individual Journey: Each person's spiritual journey is unique, shaped by different experiences, challenges, and revelations. Comparing yourself to others can undermine your personal path. 2. Diminishing Self-Worth: Comparison can lead to feelings of inadequacy or superiority, both of which can distort your self-image and distract you from recognizing your inherent value. 3. Focus on Personal Growth: Concentrating on your own spiritual and moral growth allows you to develop your strengths and address your weaknesses without distractions from others' journeys. 4. Avoiding Jealousy and Resentment: Comparing yourself to others can breed negative emotions such as jealousy and resentment, which can hinder your spiritual development and lead to unproductive thoughts. 5. Spiritual Pride and Arrogance: If you feel superior to others, it may cultivate pride and arrogance, which are detrimental to genuine spiritual growth and humility. 6. Misleading Perceptions: You may not have a complete understanding of someone else’s life or struggles, leading to an inaccurate comparison that can create false benchmarks for your own spiritual progress. 7. God’s Individual Call: God has unique purposes and callings for each person. Focusing on others can distract you from fulfilling your own God-given mission. 8. Encouragement for Others: Rather than comparing, encouraging and supporting others in their spiritual journeys fosters community and connection, promoting collective growth. 9. Cultivating Gratitude: Shifting focus away from comparison invites a greater appreciation of your own blessings, strengths, and spiritual gifts, enhancing your overall satisfaction and joy. 10. Trust in God’s Plan: Trusting that God has a distinct plan for you can reinforce your faith, reminding you that your worth and journey are not contingent upon how you measure against others. Focusing on your personal spiritual path can lead to more meaningful growth, fulfillment, and a deeper relationship with God, free from the distractions and pitfalls of comparison. October 19th, 2025

Acknowledging the sin of omission can be challenging for several reasons: 1. Subtlety of Actions: Sins of omission often involve failing to act rather than committing a clear wrongdoing, making them less noticeable and easier to overlook. 2. Cultural Acceptance: Society often emphasizes action and achievement, which can lead to the undervaluation of the importance of inaction or neglect. 3. Self-Deception: It's easier to convince ourselves that we are doing well or living righteously when we focus on what we do rather than on what we fail to do. 4. Fear of Judgment: Acknowledging omissions can expose vulnerabilities or failures, leading to fear of judgment from others or oneself. 5. Comparative Mindset: People may compare themselves to others, convincing themselves that as long as they are not as "bad" as someone else, their omissions are insignificant. 6. Lack of Awareness: Many individuals may not recognize the specific responsibilities they have towards others, making it hard to identify when they have failed to act. 7. Personal Justifications: It's common to justify inaction due to circumstances, telling ourselves it's not the right time or that someone else will take care of it. 8. Minimization of Impact: We may underestimate the consequences of our inaction, failing to see how our omissions can significantly affect others' lives. 9. Spiritual Blindness: A lack of spiritual insight can hinder recognition of sins of omission, as individuals may not realize the importance of their responsibilities to others. 10. Internal Conflict: Acknowledging sins of omission can create cognitive dissonance, leading to internal conflict as one grapples with their morality and responsibilities. Recognizing and addressing sins of omission requires self-reflection, humility, and a willingness to take responsibility for our actions and inactions. Dear Parish Family,
I am truly inspired by the enthusiasm many of you have expressed about our growing parish community. Have you noticed how clean and inviting our campus looks? Thanks to a generous $30,000 donation received in August and the dedication of our hardworking volunteers, we’ve addressed various maintenance and safety issues while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our grounds. Below is a summary of what we’ve accomplished together, resulting in an estimated savings of $100,000 for our parish: - Expanded the PLC classroom to maximize its use and accommodate weekly ministry meetings. - Refurbished the living room and bathroom in the rectory. - Made repairs to non-compliant windows, saving us from the expense of replacement. - Removed hazardous trees and trimmed branches for enhanced safety. - Initiated repairs on drainage issues to prevent future deterioration costs. - Improved the curb appeal by weeding and mulching the front entrance of the rectory and office. - Acquired a new lawn mower and negotiated the donation of another. - Changed our cleaning service, saving the parish $500-$800 monthly. - Finalized a new xeroxing contract that will contribute to annual savings of approximately $7,000-$9,000. These accomplishments are significant, but there’s still much more to be done as we continue to grow. Our next major project involves adding 25-30 parking spaces and resurfacing the existing lot, with an estimated cost of around $175,000. While we work on the parking area, we also need to address drainage issues at the PLC. At St. Gerard's, we are grateful for your ongoing support of our spiritual community. The projects mentioned above were made possible by countless volunteer hours and church funding. However, to tackle this next phase of growth—specifically the parking area—we are reaching out for your generous assistance. With your additional financial support, we can continue to move forward and build a bright future for our parish. Thank you for your consideration and commitment to our community! Here are ten reasons why offering time and talents is just as important as tithing for the vitality of a parish community: 1. Building a Stronger Community: Volunteering time fosters relationships and community among parishioners, creating a sense of belonging and mutual support. 2. Diverse Skills and Expertise: Each member brings unique talents that contribute to the parish's effectiveness in various ministries, enhancing the quality of programs offered. 3. Shared Responsibility: By offering time and talents, parishioners share the responsibility of church activities, alleviating the burden on staff and ensuring a collaborative environment. 4. Encouraging Spiritual Growth: Engaging in service allows individuals to develop and deepen their faith as they actively live out their beliefs through practical actions. 5. Serving the Greater Good: Volunteer efforts often extend beyond the parish, reaching out to the wider community and making a positive impact in various social justice and charitable initiatives. 6. Fostering Leadership Skills: Offering time and talents can help individuals develop their leadership abilities, preparing them for future roles within the church and the community. 7. Enhancing Worship Experience: Talented individuals can use their gifts in music, art, teaching, and more, enriching the worship experience and making it more meaningful for everyone. 8. Creating a Culture of Generosity: When congregation members see others giving their time and skills freely, it encourages a culture of generosity beyond financial contributions, inspiring everyone to invest in the community. 9. Strengthening Ministry Programs: Additional hands and minds can transform existing programs, allowing for new ideas, improved execution, and more vibrant ministry offerings. 10. Sustaining Long-Term Vitality: Offering time and talents helps create a sustainable model for parish life, ensuring that the community can continue thriving in both the present and future. Encouraging parishioners to share their time and talents complements financial giving, fostering a holistic approach to building a vibrant and engaged parish community. August 31st, 2025
Here are ten reasons how not tithing can negatively affect the administration of a parish, maintenance of facilities, ministries, religious formation, and youth programs: 1. Reduced Financial Resources: Without tithing, the parish may experience a significant shortage of funds, limiting its ability to operate effectively and cover essential expenses. 2. Maintenance Delays: Insufficient tithing can lead to delays in maintenance and upkeep of parish facilities, causing them to deteriorate and negatively impacting the worship environment. 3. Limited Ministries: Many ministries rely on consistent funding to function. A lack of tithes can lead to cuts in programs that serve the community and fulfill the church's mission. 4. Cutting Religious Formation Programs: Educational programs for adults and children may be scaled back or eliminated, reducing opportunities for spiritual growth and deeper understanding of faith. 5. Youth Programs at Risk: Essential youth programs may struggle for funding, limiting activities and outreach opportunities that engage younger members and foster their spiritual growth. 6. Inability to Hire Staff: A lack of financial support may hinder the parish's ability to hire or retain qualified staff, adversely affecting administration and program quality. 7. Diminished Outreach: Outreach and charitable initiatives may be compromised, reducing the parish's ability to serve those in need within the community. 8. Volunteer Burnout: When financial resources are lacking, staff and volunteers may be required to do more with less, leading to burnout and decreased morale. 9. Unforeseen Emergencies: In times of crisis (e.g., repairs from unexpected damage), a funded reserve is crucial. Without adequate tithing, the parish may struggle to respond quickly to emergencies. 10. Weakened Community Engagement: When ministries and programs are limited, parishioners may feel less connected and engaged in their community, leading to diminished attendance and participation over time. These factors emphasize the significance of tithing as a vital aspect of ensuring the overall health and vitality of a parish community. August 24th, 2025
Here are ten reasons why tithing is considered important in many faith communities: 1. Biblical Command: Tithing is rooted in Scripture, with many references in both the Old and New Testaments that encourage believers to give a portion of their income to God (e.g., Malachi 3:10). 2. Faith and Trust: Tithing demonstrates faith and trust in God’s provision. It shows that individuals believe God will provide for their needs even when they allocate a portion of their income to Him. 3. Support for the Church: Tithing helps sustain the church and its ministries, enabling it to operate, support its clergy, and fund programs that benefit the community. 4. Financial Discipline: Committing to tithe encourages personal financial discipline and encourages individuals to plan their finances effectively, fostering responsible stewardship. 5. Community Impact: Tithing allows churches to contribute to local and global missions, charities, and outreach programs, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. 6. Spiritual Growth: Regular giving can enhance spiritual growth by cultivating a generous heart and encouraging believers to think beyond themselves. 7. Joy of Giving: Tithing enables individuals to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from giving to a cause greater than themselves, reinforcing a sense of purpose. 8. Accountability and Transparency: Regular tithing creates a structure that encourages accountability within church finances while fostering transparency in how funds are used for ministry. 9. Building a Legacy: Tithing contributes to establishing a legacy of generosity and helps future generations understand the importance of giving back to God and the community. 10. Blessings and Rewards: Many believe that tithing brings blessings, both spiritual and financial. It is often viewed as a way to open oneself to receive God’s blessings in various forms (e.g., peace, joy, and material provision). These points highlight the significance of tithing beyond just financial contributions, emphasizing its role in spiritual development and community support. August 17th, 2025

Here are 10 reasons why we need to pray for our leaders (especially pastors), our parish, our community, and for others: 1. They carry spiritual responsibility Pastors and parish leaders are entrusted with the care of souls. Their decisions and guidance affect the faith lives of many. They need divine wisdom, strength, and protection in fulfilling this sacred duty. 2. They are targets of spiritual attack The enemy often targets spiritual leaders and communities to create division, scandal, or discouragement. Prayer provides spiritual covering and helps them remain faithful, humble, and holy. 3. Prayer strengthens the Body of Christ When we pray for one another — including our parish and community — we build up unity and love within the Church, which is the Body of Christ. 4. We share in one another’s burdens Scripture tells us to “bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Praying for others is an act of compassion and solidarity, lifting their struggles to God even when we cannot solve them ourselves. 5. It invites God’s blessing and guidance When we pray for our community and parish, we open the door for God’s grace to guide decisions, heal divisions, and strengthen ministries, helping the Church grow in holiness and mission. 6. It reminds us we are not alone Praying for others shifts our focus from self to the broader family of God. It nurtures a spirit of interdependence and humility, recognizing we are all part of God’s plan. 7. Prayer deepens our love and concern The more we pray for someone, the more we care for them. Intercession builds love in our hearts for leaders, neighbors, and even those we may struggle with. 8. We are commanded to pray for others Scripture instructs us to pray for leaders and all people (1 Timothy 2:1–2), so that we may live peaceful, godly lives. It is an act of obedience to God’s Word. 9. It brings healing and reconciliation Prayer can soften hearts, bring forgiveness, and promote healing — not only in individuals but across entire communities. It helps overcome misunderstandings and fosters peace. 10. Jesus Himself intercedes for us Jesus constantly prays for us before the Father (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25). When we pray for others, we imitate Christ, becoming more like Him and participating in His redemptive love. These ten points highlight that prayer is not only powerful — it is essential for the Church to thrive, for our leaders to serve faithfully, and for our communities to be transformed by God’s grace. Here are 10 key points explaining the Catholic teaching on fasting for one hour before receiving Holy Communion, highlighting its theological, spiritual, and practical importance: 1. Preparation to Receive Jesus Worthily Fasting before Communion prepares our body and soul to receive the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist with reverence and readiness. It is a form of spiritual discipline that reminds us we are about to encounter God Himself. 2. A Sign of Honor and Respect Just as one prepares to receive an important guest, we fast as a way to honor Christ, showing that receiving Him is not ordinary but sacred. It’s a physical expression of our interior reverence. 3. Following Canon Law The Church prescribes a minimum of one hour fast before receiving Communion (not before Mass), as stated in Canon 919 of the Code of Canon Law. This is a matter of obedience and unity with the universal Church. 4. A Tradition Rooted in History The practice of Eucharistic fasting has been present since the early Church, though the length of fasting has changed over time. Earlier it was from midnight, but it has been shortened for pastoral reasons while maintaining its significance. 5. Spiritual Hunger for Christ Fasting stirs a sense of longing and hunger, both physical and spiritual. It symbolizes our desire for Jesus, the Bread of Life, who alone satisfies our deepest hunger. 6. Detachment from Earthly Food By refraining from food and drink, we show that spiritual nourishment is more important than bodily satisfaction. It cultivates detachment from worldly pleasures to focus on eternal truths. 7. Participation in the Sacrifice The Eucharist is not just a meal—it is a sacrifice. Fasting is a small act of penance and self-denial, helping us spiritually unite with Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. 8. Training in Discipline The Eucharistic fast fosters spiritual discipline, helping us practice self-control and remind ourselves that the body must serve the soul, not the other way around. 9. Not an Empty Ritual, but a Sign of Faith The fast is not a hollow rule, but a visible sign of our faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It reminds us that this is not just bread and wine, but the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus. 10. Exemptions Show Mercy, Not Disregard The Church exempts the elderly, the sick, and those caring for them, showing that while the fast is important, charity and mercy are even higher values in living out the Gospel. Here are 10 key points explaining the levels of sin--venial, serious, grave, and mortal—and the need for regular confession: 1. Sin is a rejection of God’s love Sin damages our relationship with God. While all sin is harmful, the Church distinguishes between venial and mortal (grave) sins based on their severity and effect on the soul. 2. Venial sin weakens, but does not break, our relationship with God Venial sins are lesser sins that do not destroy the state of grace in the soul. Examples might include impatience, small lies, or unkind thoughts. They make us more vulnerable to committing mortal sin. 3. Mortal sin destroys sanctifying grace in the soul Mortal sin is a grave violation of God’s law, done with full knowledge and deliberate consent. It kills the life of grace and, if unrepented, leads to eternal separation from God. 4. Grave matter is the first condition for mortal sin For a sin to be mortal, it must involve grave matter, such as breaking one of the Ten Commandments (e.g., murder, adultery, missing Sunday Mass without serious reason). 5. Serious sin and grave sin are often used interchangeably “Grave sin” refers to the objective seriousness of the act, while “mortal sin” includes grave matter plus full knowledge and full consent. A serious sin may not always be mortal if the other conditions are lacking. 6. Regular confession is necessary for spiritual health Even if we haven’t committed a mortal sin, regular confession helps cleanse venial sins, strengthens the soul, and deepens humility and love for God. 7. Mortal sin must be confessed before receiving Communion Anyone aware of having committed mortal sin must first receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Receiving the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin is itself a sacrilege. 8. Frequent confession helps form conscience Confession is not only about forgiveness—it also trains the soul to discern right from wrong, to examine life honestly, and to strive for holiness. 9. Confession brings grace and healing The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores sanctifying grace, reconciles us with the Church, and gives actual graces to resist future sin. 10. Jesus gave the Church the authority to forgive sins In John 20:22-23, Jesus told the apostles: “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them…” Confession is not man-made—it is divine mercy administered through the Church. Here are 10 points explaining the Catholic teaching on the importance of Mass intentions, especially for loved ones who have passed away, for special needs and intentions, and why monetary offerings are made: 1. The Mass is the highest form of prayer and worship The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the re-presentation of Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary. To unite our intentions with the sacrifice of Jesus is the most powerful form of prayer we can offer, especially for the souls of the deceased and for special needs. 2. Offering a Mass intention helps the souls in purgatory The Church teaches that souls in purgatory benefit greatly from the prayers of the faithful, especially the Mass. Offering a Mass intention for a deceased loved one is a spiritual work of mercy and helps speed their purification and journey to heaven. Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 1032: “From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice.” 3. It unites the living with the dead in Christ Mass intentions for deceased loved ones express our communion with them. Through the Eucharist, we remain spiritually united to those who have died in the Lord, strengthening the bond of the Communion of Saints. 4. It brings God’s grace to special needs Offering Masses for the living—for healing, job opportunities, vocations, conversion, or thanksgiving—invokes God’s grace in specific situations. It shows our trust in God’s providence and mercy. 5. It is an act of love and charity By offering a Mass intention, we express concrete love for others. Whether they are living or deceased, it is a spiritual gift of the highest kind. It says: “I want God to bless you through the offering of Jesus on the altar.” 6. It connects the faithful with the Church’s treasury of grace Mass intentions tap into the spiritual treasury of the Church, uniting our prayer with Christ’s perfect sacrifice and with the prayers of all the faithful, including the saints. 7. It reflects the biblical tradition of offering sacrifice for others Scripture supports offering sacrifices for the dead: “Thus he made atonement for the dead, that they might be freed from sin.” (2 Maccabees 12:46) 8. Monetary offerings are a participation in the sacrificial act The faithful offer a stipend (donation) not as a “payment” for the Mass, but as a symbolic offering. It connects us to the biblical practice of bringing something of our own in union with the sacrifice (cf. Leviticus 2:1-3). Canon Law (Can. 945 §1): “In accordance with the approved custom of the Church, any priest celebrating or concelebrating is permitted to receive a stipend to apply the Mass for a specific intention.” 9. Monetary offerings support the Church and the priest These offerings help sustain the priest and the parish, especially in places where priests depend on stipends as part of their livelihood. It’s also a way for the laity to support the Church’s mission materially and spiritually. 10. Mass intentions promote the Church’s spiritual solidarity When people offer Masses for others—living or deceased—they contribute to the Church’s mission of prayer, intercession, and spiritual solidarity. It’s a beautiful way of participating in the life of the Church and expressing our belief in God’s power working through the Eucharist. July 13th, 2025
10 key points on why daily prayer—especially Mass and Eucharistic Adoration—is important in Catholic teaching (always be mindful of others are praying in the church; being quiet is a sign of reverence for God and respect for others): 1. Prayer Deepens Relationship with God Daily prayer fosters an intimate, personal relationship with God. As in any relationship, communication is vital. The Catechism says, “Whether prayer is expressed in words or gestures, it is the whole man who prays” (CCC 2562). 2. Mass is the Source and Summit of Christian Life The Eucharist is called the “source and summit” of the Christian life (CCC 1324). Attending daily Mass allows Catholics to be spiritually nourished by Christ’s Body and Blood regularly, drawing strength for daily living. 3. Spiritual Nourishment and Strength Like our bodies need daily food, our souls need daily spiritual nourishment. Prayer, especially the Eucharist, gives grace to resist sin, grow in virtue, and face life’s challenges with faith. 4. Obedience to Christ’s Command Jesus said, “Do this in memory of me” (Luke 22:19). Daily Mass honors Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist and keeps us rooted in His sacrifice and love. 5. Prayer Sanctifies Time and Work Daily prayer, especially beginning and ending the day with God, sanctifies time. It reminds Catholics that every action can be offered to God and that God is present in every moment. 6. Daily Conversion and Growth in Holiness Catholicism teaches that conversion is ongoing (CCC 1427). Daily prayer and frequent reception of the Eucharist help purify the soul, reorder desires, and increase holiness. 7. Adoration Fosters Love and Reverence for Jesus Eucharistic Adoration is a way to honor and love Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. It allows the soul to rest in Him, deepen love, and grow in awe and reverence (CCC 1378). 8. Prayer Unites Us to the Church and the Communion of Saints Even private prayer connects us with the universal Church. Mass, in particular, unites us to the whole Body of Christ—on earth, in purgatory, and in heaven. 9. Intercession and Reparation Daily prayer, Mass, and Adoration allow us to pray for others and make reparation for sins—our own and the world’s. This fulfills our baptismal role as priestly people (CCC 2634–2635). 10. Strength for Mission The graces received in prayer and Eucharist prepare us for apostolic action. The Mass ends with a sending forth: “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.” Daily prayer empowers the faithful to be light and salt in the world. July 6, 2025

Welcome to St. Gerard Parish! As a community of faith, we strive to create an environment where all can encounter Christ through worship, prayers, and the sacraments. At the heart of our spiritual life is the Eucharist, where we gather to celebrate the mystery of Christ's presence among us. In this sacred meal, we experience profound grace and unity, inviting us to deepen our relationship with the Lord. Living as disciples of Christ, we embrace the call to reflect His love in our daily lives. Jesus commanded us to “love one another as I have loved you,” and this guiding principle shapes our interactions and relationships within our parish and beyond. By embodying Christ’s love, we become instruments of peace, compassion, and service to our neighbors, demonstrating the transformative power of faith in action. Furthermore, our journey involves knowing Christ, loving Christ, and serving Christ. Through scripture, prayer, and communal worship, we grow in our understanding of who Jesus is and how His teachings inform our lives. Our commitment to serving others is a vital expression of our faith, as we strive to meet the needs of those around us, fostering a spirit of charity and inclusivity.
